Being the Best That YOU Can be

Motivational Power Quote

Being the Best That YOU Can be
“Be a star may not be in your destiny, but being the best
that you can be is a goal you can set for yourself.”
Bryan Lindsay, chef

As I see it . . . . . . .

Being the best that YOU can be

I met Uncle John for the first time when I was in my early twenties through a mutual friend.

On that summer day I was invited to attend a barbeque at Uncle John’s home. As we pulled into the driveway I found myself driving into an 30 acre estate  with a long winding tree line lane with large ponds on both sides of the drive way.

As we got closer the home it popped out from the trees and looked like a stone castle.

I asked my friend what does your Uncle do, oh she said he in sales.

After we parked the car we walked around the home and into a large pool area with a cabana, a bath house and summer kitchen. Now I’m from the inner city and there weren’t homes like this in my neighborhood.

I was introduced to Uncle John and found him to be an unassuming and friendly person. We seem to hit it off that day and I found out that John and his wife Ruth had a daughter that disabled.

I make it a point to talk John and to find out a little more about his profession and his sales career.

John grow up in the Depression era of the 1930’s dropped out of school to go to work to help to support his family.

John told me that he went to work for a company that made refrigeration units for businesses.

He also told me that he worked his way through the business learning all the aspects of the manufacturing through the way the front office operated. One day the owner of the business approached John and offered him an opportunity to become a salesman.

John was happy to take the opportunity and ran with it. Our the years John became the top sales person in the company moved into a executive position and continued to service and to sell the key company accounts.

Now here’s the rest of the story John retired several times. He was so valuable to the company that every time John retired the company came back to him and offered him more money and more incentives to stay.

As John would like to tell me I get paid more money to do less work.

John work until he was 80 and remained a key component of the company.

Over the years John offered me invaluable advice that you can’t get out of a book. What Uncle John shared with me was his life experiences and I also felt that I became the son that he never had.

John was a living example of being the best YOU can be. As John would reflect on his live and career he spoke in terms working hard to bring the best in him. He was also thankful for the opportunities in his life and being able to provide for his family.
