Listen to the other person to understand their wants, needs, desirers and motivation. Listening shows interest in the person that you’re speaking with and is a sign of respect


The first rule of successful communications is to listen . . . . and to listen. Effective communications is listening with interest 80% of the time and to speak with a purpose 20% of the time.


Ask questions of the person to gain deeper insight to who they really are as a person. In listening we better understand how we can assist them and how we can be of value to them.


Encourage the person to speak and proactively listen to them to fully engage them in the conversation.


The first rule of successful communications is in the art of listening.
