Motivational Power Quote
A Shortage of Listeners
“It seems rather incongruous that in
society of super sophisticated communications, we often suffer from a shortage
of listeners.”
Erma Bombeck 1927 – 1996, American
Humorist
As I see it . . . . . . .
A shortage of listeners
Everyone wants to talk and be heard . .
. . but there is a shortage of listeners.
The question is why?
Is there really a shortage of listeners?
Or is there shortage in the quality of
what is being said?
If the speaker doesn’t understand their
audience they will speak at the audience . . . . not to the audience and the
audience will tune them out and not listen to speaker.
So is there a shortage of listeners? Or
is it a shortage of the speakers understanding and motivation of the audience?
My guess in many cases is the speaker
doesn’t understand their audience . . . . and doesn’t draw the audience into
the conversation or the presentation.
The speaker misses the mark and turns
off the audience . . . .
A shortage of listeners . . . . is a
direct result of the speaker not engaging their audience.
