I May Not Agree With You
“I disapprove of what you have to say,
but I will defend the
death your right to say it.”
Evelyn Beatrice Hall, 1868 – 1919, English
Writer
As I see it . . . . . . .
I may not agree with you
I may not agree with you . . . . but you
have a right to say it.
As a business professional I may or may
not agree with what you’re saying . . . . But it’s my role to listen to what
you’re saying . . . . and to understand why your saying it.
Effective communications is an essential
business skill in the exchange of information in a successful business
relationship.
In order to influence a person that you agree
or disagree with to have to proactively listen to them . . . . and hear them out . . . . To understand where they’re coming from and how
strong their opinions are.
For the other person to listen to you
they have to trust you . . . . and there has to be mutual respect and rapport
in the business relationship. With it the person will listen to you and with
facts you will have the ability to influence them.
Without it there is very little likely hood
that they will listen to you or take your advice.
I may not agree with you . . . . Remember
the other person as the right to their opinion. Your role is to hear them out
and to understand where they’re coming from . . . . what they’re say . . . .
and why. Build your relationship with the person that they will listen to you
and accept your advice.
